Which Upper Klamath trip is right for you?

Hells Corner is the classic one-day Upper Klamath trip for guests who want a big, technical Class IV whitewater day. With iconic rapids like Caldera, Satan’s Gate, Ambush, and Hells Corner, this run delivers sustained action, volcanic canyon scenery, and the kind of paddling that keeps everyone engaged from start to finish. For more than 25 years, High Country Expeditions has guided this stretch through changing flows and seasons, and it remains one of Southern Oregon’s standout whitewater days.

If you are looking for a different style of Upper Klamath whitewater, Ward’s Canyon offers a powerful newly reopened run with steep canyon scenery and a distinct feel of its own. If you want the fuller Upper Klamath story, our 2-day and 3-day expeditions combine Hells Corner with Ward’s Canyon, riverside camping, and a more immersive experience on this watershed.

History & Setting

This stretch of the Upper Klamath is as historic as it is wild. Long before commercial rafting, these canyons were traveled by Indigenous peoples, traders, and later miners and settlers moving through the region. The name “Hells Corner” reflects the fierce rapids and dramatic volcanic geology that challenged early travelers and still defines this run today.

Klamath River restoration is bringing new attention back to the corridor and returning full flow to sections that haven’t run in generations. Hell’s Corner is the classic, fast-moving Upper Klamath canyon run. The newly reawakened Kikacéki (Ward’s Canyon) reach offers a different kind of adventure. Want the full story? Check out our Upper Klamath 2-Day or 3-Day Expedition, both reaches, more exploration, and a deeper river experience.
