We will meet you by 9:00 a.m. on the first day of your trip at Nordheimer Campground (unless you have made other arrangements to meet at a different time.)

Remote Adventure Awaits

Located in the far northwest corner of California, hidden between San Francisco and Portland, the Salmon River flows through rugged canyons between the Marble Mountains and the Trinity Alps. As a major tributary of the Klamath River, the Salmon is entirely free of dams from its source to its confluence with the Klamath, offering a pristine and untouched wilderness.

The lush canyons provide a refreshing contrast to California’s drier landscapes, and you’re likely to encounter a diverse array of wildlife, including black bears, mountain lions, deer, and various bird species. This diverse setting creates a feeling of complete immersion in nature, making your time on the Salmon truly special.

Unwind at Our Base Camp

Each afternoon, return to our unique riverside base camp nestled deep within the Salmon River canyon. Your accommodations include walk-in tents with comfortable cots, a tented dining area, hot showers and local wine or a refreshing cocktail served by a warm fire. Spend your evenings hiking, biking, playing games, or simply relaxing by the campfire with new and old friends.

After a day of paddling, enjoy appetizers, a delicious dinner featuring local and organic ingredients, and scrumptious desserts while soaking in the starry sky, far away from city lights.

Thrilling Whitewater for All Levels

The California Salmon’s river features a remarkable mix of crashing waves, big holes, and thrilling drops over smooth granite, providing an exhilarating experience for every adventurer. Beginners and intermediates can start with Class IV rapids before tackling the Class V sections, while seasoned rafters will find excitement throughout the trip.

For charter groups, we can tailor itineraries that allow for a wonderful immersion in the serenity of the Salmon River canyon while keeping the whitewater at Class IV and below.

Trip Includes

PADDLING GEAR: We provide all necessary paddling gear free of charge. We offer splash tops (a nylon top with neoprene wrists and neck cuffs),  wet suits, neoprene booties and dry bags for items you want to bring with on the river with you. These items are provided automatically on cooler days, please request if desired for warmer trips.

MEALS: This adventure includes wonderful and hearty meals from lunch on your first day through lunch on your last day. Delicious meals are served and prepared by your guides right on the riverbank, many of our guides are even gourmet chefs!
